OPTIM Manual Therapy Fellowship Program

OVERVIEW

-
We are proud to offer the first Fellowship in Manual Physical Therapy Program in Houston and are excited about teaching the next generation of practitioners. Our fellowship in orthopedic manual physical therapy is grounded in evidence-based practice and utilizes a practical approach to manual therapy. Our program fully embraces the APTA’s Vision (“Transforming society by optimizing movement and improving the human experience” as well as Vision 2020) and strives to provide participants with a forward thinking approach to physical therapist practice. Our program is designed for physical therapists who want to be leaders in the areas of orthopedic manual physical therapy, clinical reasoning, and integration of evidence into practice. Our faculty members are experienced in the field of OMPT, and our unique curriculum provides participants a well-rounded, “Monday morning applicable” experience. It is our goal to change the practice of physical therapy, develop leaders, and facilitate ongoing growth in physical therapist practice in this region and beyond. Most importantly we want to improve the quality of care provided to patients and the quality of clinical practice in the field of physical therapy. We boast a 96% program completion rate.

Our fellowship program is designed for physical therapists who want to be leaders in the areas of orthopedic manual physical therapy, clinical reasoning, and integration of evidence into practice. We are fully aware that manual therapy is often  only a small piece of a very complex pain and patient management puzzle. We do not subscribe to any one particular manual therapy approach or cult, but are solely focused on clinical decision making and approaches that make sense. The 18 month part-time curriculum includes 10 weekend courses that are heavily focused on hands-on training and practical, thoughtful application. The curriculum also includes clinical mentorship, case studies, journal article reviews, didactic and technique exams, and a capstone presentation. Upon completion you will be credentialed as a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists.
