Our Mission
Our mission is to transform physical therapists into experts in neuromuscular examination and treatment. Originally based out of Houston, Texas, OPTIM now has instructors practicing in Phoenix, Arizona and Denver, Colorado. We offer a COMT (all licensed PTs are welcome to apply) and a Manual Therapy Fellowship.
The OPTIM Experience
Welcome to OPTIM. Our programs are grounded in evidence-based practice and utilize a practical approach to manual therapy and orthopedics. Our programs fully embrace the APTA’s Vision (“Transforming society by optimizing movement and improving the human experience” as well as Vision 2020) and strive to provide participants with a forward thinking approach to physical therapist practice. Our programs emphasize current best evidence into clinical practice including paradigms like: utilizing a bio-psycho-social approach, leveraging patient expectations, and purposeful interventions to provide excellent clinical outcomes.
The current model of clinical education is ineffective. Much of what is obtained during a traditional continued education course is implemented into practice for a couple of weeks on patients that have whatever new diagnosis was presented in the course and eventually forgotten. Unwarranted practice variation in our field is wide spread and has enormous consequences. We want to train the next generation of physical therapists to be expert clinicians in orthopedic manual physical therapy. It is our goal to change the practice of physical therapy, develop leaders, and facilitate ongoing growth in physical therapist practice in this region and beyond. Most importantly we want to improve the quality of care provided to patients and the quality of clinical practice in the field of physical therapy.
Our programs are designed for physical therapists who want to be leaders in the areas of orthopedics, manual physical therapy, clinical reasoning, pain science, and integration of evidence into practice. Our faculty members are experienced in the field of OMPT, and our unique curriculum provides participants a well-rounded, “Monday morning applicable” experience. OPTIM was started with one singular goal in mind. We want to improve the practice of physical therapy in the Houston area and beyond.
OPTIM’s instructors are passionate clinical educators. We have extensive combined experience in residency and fellowship education, as well as university adjunct faculty. We have taught at the state and national level, and have been recognized locally and by the APTA for excellence in clinical teaching. We promote excellence in psychomotor skills, exercise prescription, differential diagnosis, and pain science. Want to learn more information: Meet the OPTIM Instructors.
